Understand LNG’s changing role in a lower-carbon energy system

LNG is not the final destination of the energy transition, but it continues to play an important role as a transition fuel between more carbon-intensive energy sources and lower-carbon alternatives.

As the global energy system responds to decarbonisation targets, LNG contributes to energy security, supply diversification and system flexibility, while supporting the integration of renewable energy. This intensive course therefore approaches LNG as part of a broader transition towards a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

Designed for professionals who want to understand LNG within this changing landscape, the programme covers the full LNG value chain and pays particular attention to its evolving position in the global and European energy system.

What you will gain

  • Gain a thorough understanding of LNG’s role within the global energy system.
  • Explore how LNG, bio-LNG and e-LNG can be integrated into the evolving energy mix.
  • Identify current developments and opportunities within the LNG sector.
  • Develop practical insight into LNG projects and their contribution to the energy transition.
  • Visit an LNG terminal in Barcelona and gain direct insight into large-scale operations and infrastructure.

This course brings together expertise from industry, academia and policy to provide a comprehensive perspective on the LNG value chain. Technical knowledge is combined with insight into market dynamics, pricing mechanisms and geopolitical developments.

LNG is addressed not as an endpoint, but as part of the transition towards lower-carbon energy systems. The programme follows the full value chain, from production and liquefaction to transport, regasification and end use, with a particular focus on Europe.

Through lectures, discussions and practical experiences, the programme helps you translate knowledge of LNG directly into your professional context.

After this programme you will be able to:

  • Understand the global LNG landscape and its role in the energy transition, including market dynamics, pricing mechanisms and geopolitical developments.
  • Navigate the LNG value chain from production and liquefaction to transport, regasification and end use, and identify its key opportunities and challenges.
  • Analyse Europe’s LNG infrastructure and its contribution to energy security, market flexibility and decarbonisation.
  • Evaluate the role of alternative fuels such as bio-LNG and e-LNG within a lower-carbon energy system.
  • Assess LNG applications in road and maritime transport, including relevant technical and regulatory developments.
  • Apply insights from the site visit to better understand LNG operations, infrastructure and asset management in practice.

What’s included in the Intensive Course LNG

Participants receive one year of access to all course materials through the Online Learning Platform, supporting continued learning after the programme. Upon completion, you receive a digital certificate of participation that can be added to LinkedIn.

Each course day includes lunch, while two group dinners create opportunities for informal interaction with fellow participants. The social programme also includes a Spanish cooking workshop.

A key part of the programme is the site visit to the EnagĂ¡s LNG terminal in Barcelona, where you gain direct insight into large-scale LNG operations within the European energy system.

Accommodation is not included. Our event managers can advise on suitable hotel options, and a dedicated event manager will be present throughout the programme to support participants and ensure smooth delivery.
