This beginner-level online course offers a clear and practical introduction to natural gas transportation within the European energy system. It starts with the structure of the European gas market and then explains how high-pressure transmission networks are operated in practice.
The course focuses on the critical role of gas transmission infrastructure in ensuring a secure, reliable and efficient energy supply across Europe. It also places gas infrastructure in a broader system perspective, highlighting how transmission networks are adapting to changing market dynamics, digitalisation, and the transition toward low-carbon gases such as hydrogen.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Dr Andrej Pustišek teaches energy economics at the University of Applied Sciences, Stuttgart, Germany and at the University of Karlsruhe (KIT), Germany. He owns a consulting company providing services to international natural gas and energy companies. From 2002 to 2012, he worked for E.ON Ruhrgas, first as Senior Vice President International Natural Gas Sales and from 2008 as Senior/Executive Vice President Portfolio Management.
