Empowering young professionals in taking the next steps towards circularity
Young professionals are invited to join us to learn more about the road towards a circular economy: a systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It stimulates innovation, new business activity and employment for a sustainable future.
Senior Expert Kees Kwant (RvO) will moderate alongside circular economy experts as they share their experience and knowledge to help you in contributing towards a circular economy. We will be discussing this together at the Energy Barn in Groningen and give you the opportunity to ask your questions to the experts directly and network with other young professionals during this event.

The experts


Andrew Keys
Andrew Keys is a consultant at Circle Economy, a non-profit organisation based in Amsterdam. At Circle Economy, Andrew works with cities and countries around the world to map their current urban metabolism to guide them on their journey towards a more circular economy. His responsibilities lie in translating the work of data analysts into clear narratives with practical advice. Andrew’s background is in sustainable energy, with a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Technology from TU Delft and several years of experience working in the climate, air and energy department of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL).


Niels Faber
Scientific researcher with a particular interest in sustainability in relation to organisations. Currently working on the circular economy concept. In addition to technological advancements, achieving a sustainable society depends on the ways humans organise themselves, and come to decisions about the actions to take. His research focuses on both technological and organizational topics in relation to sustainability.


Kees Kwant
Kees Kwant is Senior Expert Bioenergy and Biobased Economy at Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RvO). Kees is determined to realise a more sustainable society by developing and implementing renewable energy sources in an international environment. Kees Kwant was the past chairman of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy, cooperation with Malaysia, South Africa, and Ukraine, and will be the moderator for the Micro MBA 2022: The Road to a Circular Economy.


Heleen van Wijk
Heleen van Wijk is Business Manager Circular Economy at Groningen Seaports and responsible for all recyling related companies within both ports, Delfzijl and Eemshaven. Groningen Seaports is at the forefront of the circular economy with an innovative circular cluster and ongoing sustainable investments and believes in an integrated approach between several companies active both in her ports as well as the circular economy. Heleen has finished her Master’s degree at the University of Groningen and has a strong focus on combining circular economy and innovation, therefore she has founded a start-up community together with Economic Board Groningen facilitating high tech solution start-ups with industrial focus in Eemshaven. Furthermore, Heleen is a chairman of the Northern Netherlands Plastic Foundation, where she applies her intrinsic drive to tackle the global plastic problem and focuses on a future-proof society through education, awareness and prevention.
